Parents and wrestlers having the right gear for practice will ensure that you have a better more productive experience during training. The options below are not mandatory and are simply listed as helpful suggestions.
Parents keep it cheap, especially for new wrestlers. Middle school kids are constantly growning, shoes might not even last a full year. A couple of low cost options are listed below.
We highly recommend covering as much skin as possible during workout to reduce the chances of skin infections. Sweat clothes are often too heavy, so compression pants and shirts can be a more comfortable attire.
The Benicia Middle School program will issue singlets to wrestlers for use during the season, however, they must be returned at the end of the season. Wrestlers who plan to compete beyond the middle school season should consider purchasing at least 1 singlet.
Girls singlets are higher cut in the chest and back. They also taper at the waist more. These singlets often have an extra inner lining between the thigh area.
Boys singlets usually fit more square and are cut lower in the chest and arm pit area.
Head gear is required for practices and competitions. Coaches will be leanent in the first two weeks of practices. However, when we begin enforcing use, wrestlers can be sent home for practice for not having headgear for live wrestling.

Mouthpiece: We highly recommend mouthpieces for all wrestlers, however, it is not mandatory (unless the athlete has braces). If your wrestler has braces they must bring and wear a mouth piece at all practices and competititons. Braces bumpers are often considered a more comfortable solution but mouthpieces are the most effective tool for all around protection.
Sports Bra: Wrestling causes athletes to make a lot of contact and frequently move in unexpected way. Athletes should consider wearing a sports bra or compression shirt to thoroughly support their chest area during practices and competitions.
Hair Cover: Athletes with long hair may want to consider hair covers to keep hair out of their eyes and reduce the chances of getting pulled or caught underneath their opponents.
Running Shoes: During practices, wrestlers will be running outside and inside and some times for long distances. Running shoes are ideal for outside conditions. Crocks are unacceptable.
